Mother's Day was first celebrated in May of 1908 at a small Methodist church in Grafton, West Virginia. This celebration was officiated by Anna Jarvis in honor of her late mother, who passed in 1905. Anna had argued to get the holiday added to a national calendar, stating that American holidays were biased towards male achievements.
