You have probably seen the hashtag “#TBT” numerous times since its inception, so you know it’s a great way to take a stroll down memory lane. You may not realize that the nostalgia people feel when they see something familiar from way back when can be a great tool for marketing. Here are a few tips for using Throwback Thursday as a marketing technique.
Choose the right network
Not every social post is appropriate for all of the networks you may use. Networks with a more serious tone, like LinkedIn are not always a great fit for #TBT posts. #TBT is most commonly used on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and even Pinterest.
Make sure your post is relevant
You know who your audience and target market is, so use that to your advantage. Use #TBT ideas that your ideal demographic can relate to. You want to spark a feeling inside of people that helps them connect with your brand.
Timing is everything
Make sure your #TBT isn’t too recent. Your post should come from at least 3 years ago, but the older the better as long as your customers will be able to relate. If your post is more recent than that, try a different hashtag like #Latergram.
Host a #TBT sale
If it fits with your business model, have a #TBT sale to where you drop the price of your goods or services to what they once were. Advertise this well, so that you can have a great turnout. If need be you can choose to just drop the price on one product or service that has a higher profit margin so you don’t take a financial hit.
Theme day
Host a theme day in your office where everyone dresses from the past. Snap a fun photo of everyone’s vintage duds and share it to your networks. This show’s that your company knows how to have a good time which can make you more relatable
Opening day
Share a photo from when your first opened your doors. Customers will love seeing how much your company has grown and evolved over the years. Don’t be afraid if your hair looks crazy, and your outfit choice is so 1993. People will love to see your old do’ and reflect on their past styles.
Be creative
Don’t be afraid to step outside of the box when it comes to sharing your #TBT posts. Keep it professional, but stand out in the crowd. Since Thursday is a weekly occurrence, change it up every week.
