People enjoy the holiday for many different reasons, such as the food, the extra days off, the fireworks and festivities, or the freedom that the day is about: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress unanimously announced the colonies' separation from Great Britain.

On this day, the Continental Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence, which had been written largely by Thomas Jefferson. This declaration gave many reasons that the united states was dissolving political ties with the British. This making Americans free and independent.

The celebrations of America's Birthday usually take place over the entire holiday weekend with several days of cookouts and fireworks. These celebrations have taken place since 1776, and the day became an official holiday in 1870.

Red, white, and blue are the nation's colors and have a large part in the celebrations that take place over the holiday weekend. Between clothing, décor, mini flags, and fireworks, dawning red, white, and blue are popular ways to show patriotism.

No matter what this holiday means to you, we hope you have a safe and happy Independence day, no matter how you choose to celebrate it.
