If you are in sales, there is a good chance that this is how you started, and maybe for some of you, it’s been quite some time since you last visited your strategy for cold calling. But now, in a more digital age, there are some things you can do to make your cold calling a little more effective. Granted, some of your methods are still highly effective, but I have some tips to help you in this digital age.
Research Before The Call
This may seem like a no-brainer, but to be honest, with all the tools available to you with the rise of social media, you can really zone in on your prospects. The better you know your target and who actually needs your service, the more effective your outreach will be. Makeup call lists, prioritize them, and don’t be afraid to reach out to influencers, which might help get your company’s name out there with very little investment. The better your business prepares before making the calls, the more likely they will turn into genuine leads.
Find The Connection
Building on the tip above, when you build out your call lists and do your research, it will help connect the dots and make the connection. This will be extremely helpful when it comes to trying to find out how to approach prospects. Take this research and make a personal connection with them, and you will see that these prospects you connect with end up turning into customers.
Keep A Loose Script
Now it is important to prepare what you are going to say on these calls. We all know a script helps us make sure we don’t miss any details but stay away from sounding like a robot time and time again. Let this script have only the details you need, and always relate back to how your business can help. Reminder, each call will be different with the personal connections you make, so reading cue cards word for word is not the best route. Keep it loose.
Track Your Calls
A lot of your success will come from doing your homework before making any calls. But with that, you have to track the after-action too. The best way to do this is to take notes during and after the call. When all your calls are made, look at the notes and see what worked and what was not as effective. This will help map your cold calling research and make it more time effective and more beneficial overall.
