5 Tips For Working At HomeThere are unique challenges with working outside of your typical work environment and some can be slow to adjust. Finding work space, avoiding distractions and maintaining a positive mental attitude can be difficult when making such a major change. Here are some tips to help maintain your output, and sanity, while working from home.

Keep The Same Schedule

Staying on the same schedule as if you were in the office will help you to retain some normalcy and remain productive. When there is flexibility given, there is always a temptation to sleep in or take long lunches. This can have a negative impact on your sleep pattern and productivity. Stick with your current schedule and do your best to avoid giving yourself more flexibility than you would have within an office setting.

Have A Dedicated Work Space

Sectioning off a dedicated work space is not only important for productivity, it will also help you to separate your home life from your work life. Simply sitting on the couch all day with your laptop will have negative effects on your mind state and can make it feel like you never leave work. Try to set up a workspace that reduces distractions and has the feel of your typical office setting.

Be Sure To Take Breaks

Time can get away from you a little bit when working at home so it is important to schedule and take your breaks. Take the opportunity to step outside for some fresh air and consider a stretching or exercise routine to implement during your breaks. Keep a close eye on your diet as most people will have easier access to large amounts of food when working at home.

Stay Socially Connected

Avoiding cabin fever is essential in maintaining a healthy mind state when working at home.  Connect with friends and colleagues through social media and telephone. Use video chat so you get some face to face time. These interactions should of course take place outside of your work schedule. Social interactions of any kind can improve your mood and help you to avoid feeling isolated.

Find Creative Outlets

Finding creative outlets can help keep you positive and distract you from the worries of the world. Keeping a positive mindset is one of the most difficult things to accomplish when working in isolation. Activities like drawing, painting and recording music have long been proven to have a positive impact on mental well-being.
