Many of the technology innovations and adoptions that occurred over the last two years will continue to trend in 2022 and become a part of everyday life. Advancements in existing technologies also continue to accelerate, with some that were once thought to be a novelty becoming commonplace. We scoured the internet and found what we believe to be the five technology trends that are most prevalent in 2022.
Quantum Computing
“Constrained only by the laws of physics, quantum computing will potential extend Moore’s Law into the next decade. As commercial quantum computing comes within reach, new breakthroughs are occurring at an accelerating pace.” – IEEE Computer Society
Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)
“One of the most visible and powerful AI techniques coming to market is generative AI – machine learning methods that learn about content or objects from their data, and use it to generate brand-new, completely original, realistic artifacts. Generative AI can be used for a range of activities such as creating software code, facilitating drug development and targeted marketing, but also misused for scams, fraud, political disinformation, forged identities and more. By 2025, Gartner expects generative AI to account for 10% of all data produced, up from less than 1% today.” – Gartner
Sustainability
“With energy consumption increasing along with the world’s population, electric cars, LEDs, smart grids, smart cities, dark silicon, new battery technology, and new ways of cooling data centers are some areas where advances in sustainability are expected.” – Wired
Telemedicine
“In the healthcare sector, everyone is trying to reduce the risk of contracting the coronavirus to their workers and patients. Many private and public clinics have started offering telemedicine services. The doctor and the patient communicate via video chat, artificial intelligence conducts diagnostics using photographs, and medicines are delivered contactlessly. The number of American patients switching to telemedicine has increased 50% from pre-pandemic levels. IHS Technology expects this number to reach 70 million soon. And Forrester Research predicted that by early 2022, the number of remote receptions will reach a billion.” – Medium
The Internet of Things
“The widespread availability of various devices that connected to the internet ushered us into a whole new digital era. Now we can link up nearly everything – from planes to a simple lightbulb. And control it thanks to artificial intelligence. The idea of the Internet of Things has been around since the 1980s, but it started gaining momentum in the 2010s. The IoT is becoming more and more popular, especially after the global crisis we went through. This technology will grow within the field of manufacturing and industry as well. We are experiencing an increased demand for many products, but there might be a shortage of workers available. The IoT could automate the manufacturing process and help economic growth.” – California News Times
