10 MLB Spring Training Fun FactsAfter a delayed start, Spring training 2022 is here, and it is all about the fun! Since the games and stats don't count officially, many players will spend more time interacting with fans, signing autographs, and taking pictures before and after games. Here we've compiled 10 MLB Spring Training fun facts to enjoy.

1. The Arizona Diamondbacks' training facility is only 22 miles from Chase Field, their home stadium in Phoenix during the season. - Jugssports 

2. The Florida Grapefruit and Arizona Cactus leagues are a 50-50 split, with 15 teams training in each of the two states. Newsday 

3. Don't let their team name fool you! You'd think the Tampa Bay Rays would train in Tampa during the spring. Well, that's actually not the case. The Yankees hold spring training in Tampa while the Rays train over an hour away in Port Charlotte. - Fangirl Sports Network 

4. Atlanta's Champion Stadium is in the southwest corner of Disney World in Orlando. One website said that it was in "the house of the Mouse." At 9,500 seats, it's one of the largest venues for Spring Training games. - Jugssports 

5. The Mets have had only two spring venues in their history: St. Pete's Al Lang Field from 1962-87 and Port St. Lucie's Digital Domain Park (formerly Tradition Field) since 1988.  - Newsday 

6. When did Spring Training become a thing? Believe it or not, we don't know for sure. But signs point to 1870 (!!!) being the year the Cincinnati Red Stockings and Chicago White Stockings held organized camps in New Orleans. Thankfully these teams have new names. - Fangirl Sports Network 

7. The Dodgers and Angels wind up Spring Training with their annual "Freeway Series," which splits three games at Dodger Stadium and Angel Stadium in Southern California. - Jugssports 

8. The best stadium name in the Grapefruit League? Joker Marchant Stadium, home of the Tigers since 1966, was named for Lakeland's former parks and recreation director. - Newsday 

9. Before WWII, teams from around the League would converge on cities during the spring for exhibition games in front of fans who otherwise wouldn't see a Big League game. (Remember—the Dodgers and Giants didn't move to California until 1958.) - Jugssports 

10. Bright House Networks Field in Clearwater truly caters to its Phillies fanbase, offering Philly cheesesteaks and Yuengling beer among its concessions. - Newsday
